2020 Upcoming Car Launches in Malaysia
As 2019 is coming closer to an end, we have seen numerous launches from the cheap and cheerful Perodua Axia to the lofty BMW X7. Of course, the recent car launches are deemed to be 2019 models from launch. So that means the next batch of pending car launches will be labelled as 2020 units. What are the upcoming car launches you ask? Read on to find out more.
2020 Honda Civic
One of the most popular C-segment sedans comes from the jenama ‘H’ or Honda. The Civic is one of the company’s breadwinners in Malaysia with sales increasing as we speak. As for the refreshed model, Honda is set to introduce a few features which weren’t available before. Some of which are already available on the more expensive Accord, CRV and Odyssey. As such, Honda Sensing which is the brand’s take on adaptive driving assistance systems or ADAS will be introduced in the facelifted Civic.
2020 Kia Cerato (K3)
Now if you all remember correctly, the 2019 (initially) Kia Cerato was supposed to be launched in early 2019. However, that wasn’t the case as there has been no sign of the C-segment contender for a while. Perhaps Kia Malaysia is planning a local launch in the first quarter of 2020. On another note, the Cerato has been fully redesigned for the latest model year, with its styling coming straight from its performance brother, the Kia Stinger. It now sports the latest iteration of Peter Scheyer’s design language, which makes the entire car look more aggressive and imposing on the road.
2020 Volkswagen Arteon
As for the Wolfsburg based brand, the Arteon is set to be launched either late this year or early next year. Touted as the replacement of the outgoing Passat CC, the Arteon has some pretty big shoes to fill. Powered by a 2.0 turbocharged engine with either a 7-speed or 6-speed DSG, the new offering is bound to turn heads when it goes on sale. Tentatively by year-end 2019. If you can envision seeing one in your driveway, then you can go ahead and make a booking today.
2020 Jaguar I-Pace
Now, this is something totally different from the rest of the cars on the list. Sisma Auto is set to bring in their Tesla Model S killer, the I-Pace. Powered by a 75kWh battery pack, all 405hp and 640Nm of torque is sent to all four wheels instantly. All that power can propel you from nor to 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Of course, if you were to do launch starts all the time, then the 470km of range will definitely deplete. Pricing of the I-Pace is still scarce for now, but do expect the local debut within the next coming months.
2020 Nissan Kicks
Tan Chong Motors is also preparing to start 2020 with a bang, which comes in the form of the Nissan Kicks. Now some of you may not be familiar with the Kicks, but it is essentially Nissan’s answer to the Honda HRV and Mazda CX3 crossovers. From the regular vanilla offerings from the Japanese people mover, the Kicks is a different direction in terms of design. Its quirkiness is similar to that of the Juke SUV which was in the market for numerous years before. Pricing is not confirmed, but do expect the Kicks to be priced competitively with the Honda HRV and even the Renault Captur.
2020 Nissan Almera
This may come to no surprise to you, but the Nissan Almera is already six years old! It was first launched back in 2012 as the successor to the outgoing Nissan Sentra. Fast forward to 2019 and an all-new Almera is set to be launched in Malaysia. Rumour has it that the car will be powered with a new 1.0 turbocharged engine, mated to a CVT gearbox. Not only that, the overall look and feel have also been heightened from the previous Almera. As for the pricing? We don’t have much info, but do expect it to be priced similarly to the Honda City and Toyota Vios.
Looking at the list above, it seems to me that 2020 is going to be lit with new car launches no matter minor refreshes or completely revamped models. Which of the cars is your favourite? Do let us know in the comments below.
