Modern cars are filled to the brim with the latest technologies currently available in the market today. Some of which are more advanced than their competitors. That said, there is a feature which isn’t all that common in modern day cars. That said feature comes in the form of GPS tracking. This is due to the fact that Malaysian people aren’t exposed to the importance and benefits of GPS tracking. However, this situation is slowly being eradicated by the implementation of GPS trackers or vehicle telematics in newer cars. That’s why in this article, we’ll be talking about the relevance of GPS trackers in cars.
Why does it exist?
The main reason as to why GPS trackers exist in cars comes down to the fact that the rate of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is increasing at an abnormal rate. With this, car owners are getting more and more worried and thus taking defensive actions. This can mean different things for different individuals. Some would add rudimental solutions like steering and pedal locks while others would park it in a secluded area, hiding their cars from prying eyes.
However, those methods are becoming easier to overcome as thieves are more tech savvy and are well prepared with the proper tools to break into cars and stealing them. In fact, you can already purchase a telematics device that has GPS tracking built-in along with other features that can help aid productivity in your cars, both private owned and fleet owned.
Relevance of GPS trackers in cars
Now comes the pièce de résistance of this article where we tell you the relevance of GPS trackers. The best way to describe the relevance is like having your mother with you all the time in the car. She may nag you at times, but you know she means well. The same can be said about GPS tracking. It may make you uncomfortable at first, but you’ll know that it’s there to keep you safe, wherever you are.
It also helps that your location is always reflected in your overall trips which also helps when it comes to large number of fleet vehicles. Fleet owners can also monitor exactly where their vehicles are located, which in turn also provides a safety net over the drivers. If anything were to happen, the fleet owners will be the first to know and the first to take action.
What’s the contribution of GPS tracking in the future?
We’re moving into a more advanced era with multiple innovations in technology and there’s no turning back or slowing down. In fact, it’s growing so fast that soon we as drivers may no longer have to worry about the hassles of stress driving in high congestion areas.
That in turn also contributes to a smaller carbon footprint, as most cars by then would be either pure electric, fully autonomous with Level-5 autonomy and overall giving us the benefits of relaxing with each and every drive. Then there’s the phenomenon of car sharing or Peer-2-Peer (P2P) car sharing. If the near future isn’t on that level where we can completely enjoy the benefits of autonomous driving, at least there is the mode of car sharing. Why is this a good move? It contributes to a smaller number of cars on the road and lowering the risk of congestion wherever we go, which means we as consumers can get to our destinations on time. If this is what the future looks like, then I am definitely on board.
